Common Questions

Flywheel
A spinning disc of heavy steel (or carbon fibre in some newer models), the flywheel stores rotational energy when your vehicle is at a stop. If your gears sometimes slip a malfunctioning flywheel is probably to blame. The flywheel is the interface between the clutch system and the engine. When your foot is off the clutch pedal, the clutch disc presses against the flywheel, locking the engine to the transmission. When you apply pressure to the clutch pedal the flywheel is released, disengaging the transmission from the engine. It is the amount of friction between the flywheel and the clutch plate that determines how much energy the clutch can hold. If the surface of the flywheel is damaged by cracks or grooves, or if it accumulates a build-up of oil, it will not be able to produce enough friction when it spins against the clutch disc, this can cause the gears to slip, which is serious safety risk for your vehicle engine.
How do I know if I might need a new clutch?
Common signs that you might need a new clutch: 1. Judder, 2. Slip, 3. Drag, 4. Fierceness. Judder involves severe low frequency vibration caused by loose engine mountings, misalignment, or oil contaminated facings. Slip is when the engine accelerates without increasing vehicle speed, often accompanied by a burning smell. Drag involves difficulty engaging first gear or jolting when changing gears. Fierceness is a sudden move of the vehicle even when the pedal is gradually released. Other signs include rattling or grinding sounds when changing gears, or engine revs climbing and falling at random.
What does a Clutch do?
The clutch is a solid metal disc located between the engine and the transmission, it couples the crank shaft and flywheel to the gearbox's clutch shaft. The clutch enables the drive from the engine to be disconnected momentarily from the gearbox. The clutch disc is simply put a friction disc that, when engaged, presses against the flywheel (which is directly connected to the crankshaft) by way of the pressure plate. If disengaged the clutch disc does not press against the flywheel, which in turn means that no drive is transferred to the gearbox, allowing for a gear change to be made.
What does vehicle clutch replacement cost?
The cost of clutch replacement on a vehicle varies depending on the nature of the problem and the model of vehicle you're driving. Our expert clutch fitters will let you know what we need to do and how much it will cost before we start work.
Do you use quality parts?
We only ever use parts that match your vehicle original specification for clutch fitting. We never use cheap parts that are prone to problems like some dealers do. What's more, all our clutch work is guaranteed for 12 months, or 12,000 miles (whichever is sooner).
Can I get a clutch replacement quote online?
We make sure you only pay for the work you need. This means we can't advise you of clutch fitting prices online - we need to carry out a thorough inspection of your vehicles clutch system, so we can give you a fair and accurate quote based on the problem that needs solving.
How long does the clutch fitting service take?
Please allow an hour for our clutch check. We may be able to fit a replacement clutch on the same day if you need one. We provide a 12 Months or 12,000 Miles Warranty and use only OEM Approved Parts.
Basic Clutch Problem
The clutch is a hugely important part of your vehicle - without it, you'd be unable to change between gears. Common problems include a Noisy Clutch (high pitched sounds, often from riding the clutch), a Slipping Clutch (engine revs without speed increase, often from oil contamination), and a Dragging Clutch (pedal fails to release due to air in the system or low fluid).
Short Lаѕtіng clutch
This pedal is supposed to last a long time although it is one of the most used components. This is usually caused by bad driving habits. Too much riding can cause your clutch to have a shorter life thus requiring a replacement. Before assuming the problem is the clutch, listen for engine noises. Sounds to be aware of include squealing, chirping, clicking, or screeching. Problems with the engine and components should be noted and not ignored; take the vehicle to a service centre to be safe.
